Resolutions stated aloud must be kept, particularly when they’re stated in front of about 150 people, some of them holding big video cameras and others holding recorders.

Gov Terry Branstad, with a room full of witnesses, pledged Thursday morning to lose 8 pounds before Memorial Day.

Jim Andrew of Jefferson, a college buddy of the governor and emcee of the Home Base Iowa event, told the governor, “On behalf of the veterans here, I would hope you would quit showing us all up putting that Army uniform on. I can’t fit into mine, but the governor is renowned for showing up in his military police uniform occasionally. It makes some of us feel ashamed,” Andrew complained.

“I’m intending to do it on Memorial Day again. I have to lose about 8 pounds,” Branstad answered. “Now that all the people in Greene County know it, I have no choice.”

Eight pounds in 10 weeks….a reasonable goal. Anyone want to take an 8-pound Challenge? Email news@greenecountynewsonline.com.  Let’s talk about this.
